The Manu Biosphere Park consists of two zones: the Manu National Park, which can only be entered by professional biologists with a special permit; and the Manu Reserved Zone, which can be entered by tourists, but only with an organised tour. There are buffer zones around the park, often referred to as the Cultural Zone, although this is no official protection for this area.

DAY 1: CUSCO – CLOUD FOREST – MIRADOR LODGE

Leaving from Cusco very early in the morning in our comfortable bus. Ascending to the high mountain area of Paucartambo. On the way we visit the funeral towers or chullpas of Ninamarca. The bus then descents through the mysterious cloud forest full of beautiful orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns. Stopping to give you an opportunity to witness Cock of the Rocks (Rupicola Peruvian) mating ritual. There are also possibilities to observe the Amazonian Umbrella bird (Cephalopteros Ornatus), Trogons (Trogon sp.) and many more. With luck the only South American bear, the Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon we arrive our typical lodge. Showers and toilets available.

DAY 2: MIRADOR LODGE – BOCA MANU.

After an early and delicious breakfast, The rest of the day is spent traveling on the Alto Madre de Dios River. On the way you can see a variety of birds, like herons, egrets, kingfishers, and the ever present vultures of which the most spectacular is the condor of the jungle, King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa). In the afternoon a short stop at the village of Boca Manu to have refreshing cold beverage. Later on the group arrives to a lodge near Boca Manu. Walks to explore some one of the trails in the area. Night in Lodge. Showers and toilets available .

DAY 3: BOCA MANU – OTORONGO LAKE-CASA MACHIGUENGA

The boat trip goes on and one will be able to understand why Manu is famous for its wildlife. On the river edges you will be able to observe groups of turtles, White caimans (Caiman cocodrylus),Capybaras (Hidrochaeris hydrochaeris) and maybe a Jaguar (Panthera onca) resting on a log and observing its territory. Arriving in Oxbow Lake called Otorongo, Here we have possibilities to see the giant otters from the Otorongo observation tower. Later on, visiting the trails around the lake together with the guide to learn the functions and secrets of the tropical rainforest. We spend the Night at the Camping in casa machiguenga Showers and toilets available.here we have a very good chances to find the king of the jungle (Jaguar -otorongo).
About the Casa Matsiguenka
The Casa Matsiguenka is designed using the indigenous people’s building techniques and counts on 12 fully screened twin rooms. Beds are furnished with mosquito nest.
There is a private trail system and local Matsiguenka guides will accompany you on the trails. There is an interactive interpretation center and locally made souvenirs are for sale.

DAY 4: CASA MACHIGUENGA – SALVADOR LAKE – CASA MACHIGUENGA

Today the group visit another oxbow lake called Salvador, here paddling silent on a catamaran, you have again possibilities to observe a family of giant otters fishing and playing, black caimans and many different rare birds like the Hoatzins (Opisthcomuns hoatzing).Here in Manu the animals have never suffered hunting pressure from man. In the afternoon we return to our campsite. Showers and toilets available.

DAY 5: CASA MACHIGUENGA– BOCA MANU

The call of the Red Howler monkeys (Alouatta seniculus) will wake us up. After a delicious breakfast we unfortunately need to start our return on Manu river , the group will see many different animals as caimanes,pecaries,tapirs,capybaras,a lot of monkeys. In the afternoon the group arrives to our Lodge Boca Manu .Walks in the afternoon, and a night walk . Night in lodge. Showers and toilets available.

DAY 6: BOCA MANU ECOLOGICAL RESERVE - HARPY LODGE

Leaving the lodge we’ll head up the Madre de Dios River for 6 hours to the comfortable lodge facility Harpy lodge .This strategically located lodge facility is jointly owned and run by a local conservation group and is a base for scientific birdwatchers research in the area and a center for visitor wanting to explore the rainforest. We should arrive arround 3:00 pm and give us time to explore a trail through the untouched forest to a lookout point on a cliff over the river to watch roosting flights of parrots and Macaws as the sun sets. Those who wish can participate in a night walk with your guide in search of nocturnal animals.

DAY 7: HARPY LODGE – CUSCO

We will leave the Lodge early in the morning to arrive to the port Atalaya from here; we will take the van directly to Cusco Passing through Cloud Forest and the Andes, arriving to Cusco at 6:00 pm.
